Construction of the new boathouse on the New Meadows River is nearing completion as final finishes and fixtures come together.
Head coach Doug Welling says the construction crew has done “a remarkable job” keeping the project on track toward the goal of a late-March move-in date.
“We are extremely excited to move the team into the new boathouse this spring,” Welling said. “The rowing team will be training in Summerton, South Carolina, over the break in mid-March and hope to return to full operations out of the new boathouse when we’re back.”
Some of the finishing touches inside include trim made of siding recovered from the former Smith Boathouse. “It is beautiful and we are grateful for the memories this wood carries,” said Welling. “This new home truly elevates the support for the team's training and equipment.”
Welling says the team hopes to have an official opening celebration in the fall once landscaping is complete.
